Switalskis Solicitors – PMS Selection Support
Project type: PMS Selection Support
Switalskis Solicitors, a Top 200 firm with offices across Yorkshire, engaged Baskerville Drummond to provide consultancy support as they considered the future strategy for their Practice and Case Management System requirements.

David Baskerville and Matthew Riches conducted a series of information gathering sessions with staff members from across the fee earning teams as well as other stakeholders including the IT and Finance teams. These discussions allowed Baskerville Drummond to gain an in-depth understanding of how each team used the system, the pain points and wish list items, as well as giving Directors and their colleagues the opportunity to talk about what they liked about the existing system and would want to see retained within any future product.
Baskerville Drummond’s approach – engaging with a broad range of staff and giving them a confidential environment to talk about their usage of the system and their views on it – empowered consultees to express frankly their opinions and any concerns around the whole range of IT services and setup within the business.
Baskerville Drummond produced an in-depth report for Nigel Stott, Chief Technology Officer, detailing the recurrent issues and themes which had been raised and providing Switalskis a set of recommendations for successful progression of the project, not simply from a technical perspective but also discussing any cultural and organisational issues which would need addressing to help the project move forward successfully.
As a result of Baskerville Drummond’s involvement and their in-depth analysis Switalskis decided that, rather than engage on a full system replacement project with the inherent disruption and cost, the firm would see a better outcomes by refocusing their efforts on improving the existing system through enhanced document management functionality and by redirecting their IT development team to case and workflow across all departments, large and small.
An additional benefit was that, as a result of the positive feedback received on their efforts, the IT Team were reinvigorated to deliver changes and improvements in working practices for the whole firm.
About Switalskis
Switalskis, established by Stephen Switalski in 1993, began with a focus on child care law and criminal law from a single office in Wakefield. Since then, they have expanded to 11 locations, employing more than 380 staff who provide a wide array of specialist legal services.
Despite their growth, Switalskis remains committed to first-class client care. They strive to ensure positive outcomes for every client, and are known for our caring, knowledgeable and tenacious approach to handling complex cases.
“We initially engaged Baskerville Drummond to assess our existing case management system and help us determine whether it was the right time to review the wider market. Their work quickly provided a level of clarity that has been extremely valuable to us.
Rather than simply recommending change for the sake of it, they identified that there was broad support for the case management system itself, but that the document management functionality was not sufficiently meeting the needs of the business. Their recommendation was therefore focused and pragmatic: to consider a separate document management capability that could better support our future requirements.
That advice has been instrumental in shaping our current thinking and is something we are now carefully considering as we determine the most appropriate way forward.”
