Baskerville Drummond were engaged to complete a full IT review as Longmores had identified some frustrations with their IT service provision and wanted to fully understand the problems and to ensure the IT service supported the business strategy.

As part of this review we met with a percentage of staff from across the business, both Legal and Operational teams

The review led to us recommending a programme of change for the business, the most critical of which was to address underperformance of their Managed Service Provider, and the infrastructure itself.  They were experiencing poor performance on the network, issues with applications not running as expected and a number of complete outages, all of which was very disruptive for the business.

Due to timelines for certain products and services, there were a number of complicating factors which we worked hard to manage in first instance so that certain aspects of performance could settle.  Then it was a case of prioritising the outputs from the report and putting a plan in place that the business was comfortable with.

All Longmores’ and fee earners are specialists in their respective areas of law acting for a wide range of commercial, private and public sector clients.

The primary issue to tackle was the incumbent Managed Service Provider.  For a period, we attempted to bring them back on board and encourage them to perform better and to be more proactive with their hosting environment, ensuring less issues and downtime. This included attempting to get the incumbent supplier to adhere to standard IT processes such as ITIL and providing the contracted services and service levels.  Whilst this was successful in part, the firm weren’t satisfied that they had changed enough, and eventually opted to go to tender, including the incumbent in that process.

Through our fair and transparent tender process, an alternative provider was selected.  We went on to support Longmores through the negotiations, project planning and delivery of the new solution and Managed Services.

This was a complicated technical project which involved the movement of Longmores from a private cloud data center with applicated delivered via Citrix to a Azure hosted solution with AVD.

As part of this project we supported a member of the IT Support team in developing his role and increasing his confidence in taking control of suppliers, services, data management and cyber security.

We are pleased to continue to support Longmores in a number of ways, with regular IT Strategy meetings, support from our Training Consultant and our Development Consultant works closely with their team with regard to managing data and developing new workflows.
