Joelson – DMS Selection

Project type: DMS Selection

Joelson had been using the Lawman solution as its primary Document Management System (DMS) for some time but had decided that the system was no longer fit for purpose given the growth of the firm and the increasing sophistication of other technologies used by the firm.

Given our knowledge of Lawman and competitive all-in-one systems and Joelson’s requirements we recommended that they implement a best of breed DMS solution to sit over the top of the Lawman solution.

This Best-Of-Breed strategy would also simplify any future PMS upgrade or replacement project once the Lawman application strategy had been developed.

Following interviews with key staff, we developed a clear selection process and created a requirements document setting out the technical and service requirements for the project.

We engaged with the three leading DMS providers in the legal sector (NetDocuments, iManage and Intapp) and received good proposals from all vendors. Joelson were keen to ensure that the decision had good buy-in so once we had undertaken a technical assessment and high-level due diligence, we invited the two leading vendors to undertake a series of demonstrations with the staff and Partners who had fed into the requirements document.

The final element of the process was a “hands on” training session which gave the selection team the opportunity to “feel” and not just see what it would be like working with the system on a day-to-day basis.

Following this process there was one solution which passed Joelson’s benchmarks in all aspects – technical requirements, staff happiness / engagement and due diligence process. We then supported the Joelson team in moving the product from being “preferred vendor” to the initial project kick-off.

“Baskerville Drummond has given us clear and pragmatic advice and support from the initial engagement, which give us a high-level review of our IT and in particular the recommendations on how to deal with our challenges with document management, through to the support given which has enabled us to choose the right DMS solution to go with.

David has been very supportive of the management team throughout the process and has dealt with the various vendors extremely professionally.”
